Prologue

Every forager has their spots, and nobody gives them away. They are handed down in families and hinted at, at most.

That is good for the spots. For anyone starting out it means an hour’s drive, three hours of searching and an empty basket.

Fungavia lives on exactly this silence. The secret is twofold: that of the experts, who put their knowledge into a map without giving their names. And yours, which grows with every find. Three chapters tell the story.

Chapter I

Grandpa’s spot

Every autumn Grandpa came home with a full basket. Where had he been? “In the woods.” He never said more, not even to the family. He took the spot with him.

Almost every family has a story like this. Whoever knows a good slope leaves early and comes back the long way round.

Fungavia shows you slopes where forest, altitude and weather come together the way they did at his. The rest you find yourself. And this time the spot stays in the family: encrypted, only on your phone.

Chapter II

The mycologist who never talks

She knows every larch slope in her valleys. Ask her about her spots and she just smiles.

Fungavia was developed in collaboration with leading mycologists. They stay unnamed, because whoever knows where it grows doesn’t say it out loud. Their years of experience are in the maps: which forest, which altitude, which weather.

Their spots stay theirs.

You get their eye for the landscape.

Chapter III

Three days after the rain

Every forager knows the feeling: they should be coming up now. Five cars are already in the car park. On the well-known slope the tracks are fresh.

Fungavia shows you where conditions fit right now. So you search where it may pay off, and not where everyone else has already been.

The double secret

Their knowledge on your map. Your finds with you alone.

Between us

What Fungavia can do. And what it can’t.

Experts promise nothing the forest can’t deliver. Neither do we.

Fungavia can

  • Show you where forest, altitude and weather suit porcini right now
  • Highlight the best 1 to 50 % of areas, as strict as you like
  • Work deep in the woods without signal once the map is loaded
  • Save every find with photo and location, encrypted on your phone

Fungavia can’t

  • Promise finds. Only the forest can tell
  • Identify mushrooms or say whether they are edible
  • Upload your spots. Nothing leaves your phone unless you say so
  • Replace the foraging rules of your region

Who it’s for

Three ways into the woods.

01

If you’re starting out

Nobody will tell you a spot. Fungavia shows you slopes where a search may pay off and reminds you of the rules before you set out. Your first trip starts with a destination, not a guess.

02

If you know your spots

Your spots are good, but not every year. When they stay empty, Fungavia shows you new slopes with similar conditions. And you see when the right moment after the rain has come.

03

If you go with family

A day in the woods with a goal: choose a region, see where it fits, save the best find with one tap. The kids will know where it was. Nobody else will.

The rules of the forest

Six rules that apply everywhere.

Wherever you forage, each region sets its own details. Experts follow these six principles everywhere.

  1. Check firstEvery region has its own rules: days, hours, permits or fees. One call to the local council settles it.
  2. Limit your haulMany regions allow only a set amount per person per day. Experts take less than they could.
  3. Respect protected areasIn national parks and nature reserves foraging is often banned or tightly regulated.
  4. Signs applyAuthorities and landowners can ban foraging. A no-foraging sign is always right.
  5. Basket, not bagMushrooms need air. And a spot only stays good if you leave it intact.
  6. Get it checkedSee a mushroom advisory service before eating. If poisoning is suspected, call emergency services at once.

Questions

What you want to know.

Does Fungavia guarantee finds?

No. Fungavia shows where forest, altitude and weather come together right now. That is where a search may pay off. Whether there are mushrooms, only the forest can tell. There is no guarantee of finds.

Does the app replace mushroom identification?

No. Fungavia does not identify mushrooms and says nothing about whether they are edible. Never eat a mushroom based on an app alone, and have your finds checked by a mushroom advisory service.

Can I use Fungavia offline?

Yes. Fungavia is made to work without a signal, deep in the woods. You need a connection beforehand to download the maps.

Where are my finds stored?

On your phone, encrypted. Finds, photos and routes are never uploaded automatically. Only you can create an export, and you decide who gets it.

How much does Fungavia cost?

The planned prices are €4.99 per week or €29.99 per year, VAT included, as a subscription via Google Play. Prices are not final and may change. Joining the list is free and not a purchase.

Do I need an account?

Sign-in is planned for the subscription and map downloads. Your find locations are not part of the account. They stay on your device.
